I've been using VCDS hardware and software for years, and while it has always worked for me, this scan tool and companion app from MotorSure caught my attention with its more modern design. I use VCDS on Windows, typically through a wired connection to my laptop -- while that works well, it is a lot more involved than plugging in the MotorSure scan tool and launching the Android app. - Capable tool. This scan tool goes beyond what a cheap generic OBD2 scanner can do. Compared to a scan from VCDS, the app was able to identify everything VCDS did. 

I didn't really know what to expect when I ordered this tool. I didn't expect it to be able to provide any bidirectional functionality for my E89 Z4. It doesn't do as many as a decent mid- to high-level code reader, but it was enough to put a smile on my face. The app is pretty easy to understand. Unlike some code readers that require you to remain on the "accessory" stage of your ignition to work, I had to start my engine to get it to work which makes sense since it does some bidirectional actions. I'm still weeding through the different functions but so far so good. This is pretty cool tool.

I have a great (and rare) mechanic who has helped me learn more about my old car, including learning enough to take better care of it, and to repair a few things myself. It all began when the engine light came on and had to be reset (nothing wrong) several times, and continued when time came to smog and it failed. This has been a very useful tool for assessing whether I can tackle repairs or need professional help. The tool itself and app are pretty basic,and easy to use. For me this is educational, diagnostic, and helping to save money. I recommend this for anyone who drives one of the vehicles this is designed for.
